What is CPD
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) are skills or learning attributes for personal and professional growth and development,
Why is CPD important ?
CPD is an essential requirement for maintaining annual licensing requirements. For an IMG not currently working CPD activities are a useful to keep up to date with medical knowledge, skills in a safe and simulated environment and demonstrates commitment to professional development. The courses and workshops add credentials to CVs and help create a difference when employers shortlist candidates for an interview.
How many CPD hours are required ?
As an estimate, 10 CPD hours per month of either online or face to face learning is important when not working or seeking a job in a medical profession. When working most professional colleges mandate 50hours of annual CPD.
Selecting your CPD
Before you choose your course make sure to define what is that you want to learn ? how are you going to do that and how can you incorporate that skill in you personal development profile. Also, choose interactive learning format instead of lectures or webinars.
Also, make sure the online CPD activity is no longer than 3 hours with at least 10-20min break in between
How to make most of CPD courses ?

Pre-reading from your own medical book or an online resource and make a set of questions

If online make sure your cameras and audio are connected and you can attend the meeting with as much interaction as possible

Participate actively at an every opportunity of solving a case or planning a management

Don't be shy and ask any questions that you may have and engage with your tutor

Make sure to leave an honest feedback at the end of the course

Once, you have completed a course, try develop it further to an advance level or more in depth course to help you grow
